Turn-of-the-(previous)century Western Civilization must have been an amazing time to be alive. Industry boomed, technology grew, and yet the world was still a place full of charm and ornate elegance. It was a time of both extreme opulence and pitiful poverty. It was a time of simplicity. As the years passed, carved wood and gold leaf gave way to plastics, steel, and rubber. Photography became sleeker, sharper, better. Decoration gave way to function. The new, fast-paced and high-demand world had no place for those leisurely and extravagant materials of yesteryear. And now, that charm is all but lost.
But what if we never lost that old-world veneer, and our technology had never stopped growing? Where would we be? What would we look like?
This blog is dedicated to all things Steampunk, and inspiring bits of Victorian nostalgia.
